EditorialIt’s important for travel writers to gain visibility by self-promoting. Enhanced visibility inevitably means more assignments - so this is something you must do if you want to succeed at travel writing.Self promotion can be hard for a lot of people. You must be continuously self-promoting and marketing yourself and your products (travel articles) to sell your work. But travel writers often put this on the back burner. Here’s some step-by-step advice for self-promoting and gaining visibility in the competitive travel writing arena. Enhanced visibility inevitably means more assignments! Here’s a list of marketing tasks—broken down into bite sized pieces — that you can do each day. Use these marketing tips to rise above the thousands of others writhing around in that huge travel writers' mosh pit. These steps will advance your name, help you promote yourself, and further establish your personal travel writing brand. Do one or two of these tasks each day, and continue to do them every day until it becomes routine. Self-Promotions – Social Media 1. Create a Facebook site for your writing self Create a Facebook site for your writing self. This is different than your personal page (click on the link and read the article to find out more) 2. Always post your latest travel story on your Facebook page — or a link to the article if it’s online 3. Post your latest travel story on TravMedia.com 4. Write some updated copy for your writer’s website to include you latest travel stories.
You do have a writer’s website, don’t you?

Since then I’ve had over 139 military stories published. They've appeared in more than twenty paying magazines and newspapers in the U.S, U.K, and New Zealand. And, the beauty of it is, these were all travel stories. So far, every military story I’ve pitched has been picked up. I’ve resold many of them, often to magazines in other countries. Some of my military articles have been 4-figure payouts. This success has led to a regular military museum column for Military Magazine, which has further enhanced my credibility in this genre. Here’s how to break into writing for military magazines"
